Let Love Sleep

I held him and would not let him go...

Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you
by the gazelles and by the does of the

Do not arouse or awakend love

If love is so wonderful, as this poem beautifully sings, shouldn't people pursue it recklessly? Yet the beloved warns them not to. Three times she urges others not to force love, but to let it develop at its own rate. Love should wait for its proper time.

There is another bible verse that I remember: "There is a time for everything..." In this regard, there is a time for love as well. And even though we may find our hearts ready to burst with readiness, God has set aside a time in our lives for love (the romantic love that many of us long for) to blossom and to flourish. For those still awaiting that love, let it sleep until God awakens it in our hearts... it cannot be forced and cannot be steered into awareness but must be cultivated and allowed to grow on its own.
